Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Launches Vocational Educational Training Programs Sponsored by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

On Wednesday 20 October 2021, the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) marked the launch of a new training program for Syrian and Jordanian youth. This training program, funded through the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), will support Syrian and Jordanian youth to build the skills they need to seek employment in the hospitality and culinary industries. 

The launch event was attended by representatives of the EBRD, FCDO, and other entities, including potential employers of this program’s graduates. Mr. Sean Hilhorst, Head of the Economic Pillar, attended on behalf of the FCDO, Mr. Philip ter Woort, Director and Regional Head of the Eastern Mediterranean Region, attended on behalf of the EBRD, and Mr. Mohammad Al Qasem attended in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of the Sector Skills Council on Hospitality and Tourism. 

The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts’ Director, Mr. Jacques Rossel, expressed his strong support for this program: “Today RACA is proud to support its newest program in cooperation with the EBRD, as ever since its founding, following the vision of His Majesty, King Abdullah II, RACA has always sought out a means to support those who have a passion and a dream to join this industry that we all love so much, but could not afford it, through scholarship programs or various sponsorships.”

EBRD Director Philip ter Woort added that this training program, which will provide access to skills development trainings for the next generation of culinary arts graduates, is crucial to support not only youth’s entry into the workforce but also the recovery and growth of the hospitality sector post-COVID. 

In light of its continuous efforts to support the hospitality sector and satisfy the market’s needs and demands for trainees, the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts introduced short-term vocational education and training programs that seek to develop youth’s competencies for occupations in the hospitality and culinary arts industries. This program introduces a unique three-month intensive training course that will build the skills of participating Syrian and Jordanian youth to successfully enter the workforce. Students will receive a combination of soft and technical skills training, as well as communication and English language skills, followed by on the job training opportunities.

Workshop on the method of techniques in tasting Olive Oil

In the celebration of Olive Oil, The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts hosted a workshop on the method of techniques in tasting Olive Oil in participation with the Jordanian Society for Sensory Evaluation of Food‎, Jordan Olive Products Exporters Association, and Hospitality of Health.
The workshop took its place at RACA campus for two days, divided into two sessions, the first workshop was for Chefs and Food & Beverage professionals and the second workshop was for RACA students by certified trainers of JSSEF (the Jordanian Society for Sensory Evaluation of Food) and JOPEA (Jordan Olive Products Exporters Association), Where the members and the students participate in the most common taste defects which preclude oils from being “Extra Virgin”, as well as the three recognized positive characteristics of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts celebrates launching the Bachelor program in Food & Beverage Management!

The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA), an Associate Member of the EHL Network of Certified Schools, celebrates its latest study program: BA in Food & Beverage Management, launched in collaboration with the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, world’s N°1 University in Hospitality and Leisure Management, in the framework of the status of Associate Member of the EHL Network of Certified Schools, during a VIP reception held at the campus of the Academy.

After many years of successfully delivering a Two-Year Diploma in Culinary Arts, RACA was approved to become a Technical University College and therefore can now offer both a Diploma and a Bachelor Degree.

The reception was attended by H.E. the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities; Mr. Nayef Al-Fayez, H.E. the Ambassador of Jordan to Japan; Mrs. Lina Annab, and H.E. the President of the Commission for Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions and Quality Assurance; Prof. Dhafer Al-Sarayrah, in addition to a number of general managers of five-star hotels in Jordan, the director of hotel education at the Ministry of Education, and many school principals and school university counselors. Guests were welcomed by Dr. Wajih Owais, Chairman of RACA’s Board of Trustees.

The ceremony included a speech by RACA’s Director; Chef Jacques Rossel where he welcomed the invitees and shed light on this new program and this important major, the first of its kind in the region, which combines Culinary Arts and Food and Beverage Management, and grants students an accredited certificate from the Ministry of Higher Education and Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) within 4 years; where students will receive a hands-on program delivered entirely in English, including two internship semesters taking place in one of the best 5* hotels in Jordan or abroad. Upon completing of their studies, successful graduates will be fully prepared for the hospitality industry locally and internationally. 

“We thank our partners in success, our colleagues in the hotel and tourism sector, and ladies and gentlemen from the education sector for attending this event and for their continuous support for the Academy’s journey over the past years” Mr. Rossel added.

The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, Associate Member of the EHL Network of Certified schools is launching a Bachelor program in Food & Beverage Management!

The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA), an Associate Member of the EHL Network of Certified Schools, has announced its latest study program: a Bachelor in Food & Beverage Management, launched in collaboration with the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, world’s N°1 University in Hospitality and Leisure Management, in the framework of the status of Associate Member of the EHL Network of Certified Schools, during a media event held at the campus of the Academy.

After many years of successfully delivering a Two-Year Diploma in Culinary Arts, RACA was approved to become a Technical University College and therefore can now offer both a Diploma and a Bachelor Degree.

During the press conference attended by many media representatives, it was announced that the program was now open for registration and the Academy would be ready to deliver the Bachelor program for its Fall semester starting mid-October 2021.

His Excellency Dr. Wajih Owais, Chairman of the Academy’s Board of Trustees, expressed his joy with RACA’s transformation and its growth into a Technical University College, and the launch of this important specialization for the Hospitality Industry. He explained that the program will combine Culinary Arts and Food and Beverage Management. Students will receive a hands-on program delivered entirely in English, including two internship semesters taking place in one of the best 5* hotels in Jordan or abroad. Upon completing of their studies, successful graduates will be fully prepared for the hospitality industry locally and internationally. 

“Great efforts have been put to prepare this Major in collaboration with the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (RACA is an Associate Member of the EHL Network of Certified Schools). The program reflects the growing needs of the industry, and the curriculum is developed to answer the challenges a professional in hospitality may face in today’s market. Eventually, employability of RACA graduates is key, and no efforts can be spared to ensure the study program is aligned with the industry needs. Eventually students will have numerous job opportunities once they have graduated from this program”; Chef Jacques Rossel, Director of the Academy, said during the conference. He added: “Facilitators and Practical Instructors are prepared through training and development courses taking place at EHL campus, and all are very excited to start this new venture”.

The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts is a Jordanian non-profit educational institution that was created in 2008 to fulfill the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II to establish a specialized College that provides the highest level of international education in Culinary Arts and Hospitality in Jordan, and to introduce the Swiss experience, that strongly combines theoretical and practical education.

The Academy is one of the development projects of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD), which aims to support youth employment, women empowerment, assists domestic tourism and reduces the use of external expertise in the hotel and restaurant sector.
